People may have been calling him "wicked" for years, but he's finally showing his true colours when he appears as the Wicked Witch of the West in his holiday entertainment this year, The Wizard of Oz.

The Star has also learned that the leading players from Rock of Ages, Elicia MacKenzie and Yvan Pedneault will be joining the cast, her as Dorothy and him as the Tin Man.

Reliable reports also indicate that Steve Ross, from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival company, will be the Cowardly Lion, Eddie Glen, veteran of numerous previous Petty pantos, will be the Wizard and the Shaw Festival's Kyle Blair will be the Scarecrow.

There's going to be a major change at the helm, however, with Tracey Flye, who has choreographed the shows for the last several years, taking on the directing duties as well and Steve Thomas filling the musical director position for the panto.

What's still uncertain is whether or not this year's Wizard of Oz will bear any resemblance to the original, or if it will be Pettified with topical allusions, commercial plugs and rock songs as has been the case in recent years.

Petty denied reports that the famous ruby slippers would be replaced by toe shoes in honour of his wife, Karen Kain, Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Canada.
